The Weimar Republic triggered dramatic religious-cultural changes. The churches experienced them as crises and losses. But there were also upheavals and new beginnings in the air: a radical search for the unconditional, a pragmatic trust in compromise, and individual border crossings between religions. Productive times for Christian theology and Jewish philosophy of religion.
The Weimar Republic triggered substantial and even dramatic changes in religious life, mainly for the organized churches. The feeling of a general crisis, however, was not the sole reaction to this situation. A new interest in organizing society, a plea to make compromises and a will to cross borders between confessions and religions, between atheism and religion came to the fore as well. This volume examines some famous and some unknown reactions in theology and philosophy of religion.
