Does Christianity teach »the art of dying«? What defined and defines an effectual way of dealing with death? How did (further) developments in the Christian handling of death, burial and commemoration of the dead come about? From the viewpoint of the classical theological disciplines, this volume offers essential orientation on dealing with dying, death and burial in the Bible, in church history and history of thought traditions - but also in light of the challenges presented by today's funerary culture, and taking into consideration current theological debates on the consequences of each reflection on the close of life and the dead. Moreover, the collected essays stimulate further engagement with the tasks and enquiries human death presents to theology and faith.
