Summary
This is the first translation of the Yerushalmi Sotah into German. It includes a commentary based on classical commentaries and modern scholarship as well as textual notes, cross-references, parallels and indexes. The tractate Sotah deals with the procedure laid down in Numbers 5:11-31 to which a woman suspected of adultery is subjected. Other subjects dealt with include further examples of reliation according to the principle of 'measure for measure', problems of cleanliness, the expansion of the Levites' cities, the blessings and the curses given on Mount Garizim and Mount Ebal, problems involved in various types of war and the deferment of certain persons from military service. It also gives examples of the decline of religion and morals and the increase in misfortune and plagues.
