Summary
In the turbulent history of university church services in German Protestantism, the church of the University of Göttingen played an important role. The University of Göttingen was the most modern German university of the 18th century. Using the territorial system, the absolutist state at that time created a spiritual and religious institution , the university church service, and by incorporating it into the university gave it its own typical institutional and legal profile, which it still has today. In addition to the special position of this Göttingen institution, Konrad Hammann outlines the development of the sermon during the Age of Enlightenment, showing how the clergymen at the University of Göttingen attempted to overcome the transformation crisis of modern Christianity.
