»God is not necessary. God is more than necessary. These two - by no means paradoxical - sentences may be seen as a synopsis of what I am trying to say about the matter of theology in the collection of essays in this volume. The fact that both sentences do nonetheless tally exactly with each other, and the way in which they tally, is a fact which must be worked out by Protestant theology. In my opinion, everything we have to say about God and the world is basically nothing but an explication of the facts formulated concisely in the above two sentences.
