Verstehen, was Markus erzählt

Based on a philological orientation and hermeneutical reflections, Hans-Ulrich Rüegger discusses problems in interpretation which arise when translating the story in Mark 3:1-6. He examines the linguistic, textual and literary aspects which can help to understand the story while trying as much as possible to refrain from making use of previous specific knowledge, for example the definitions found in lexica. From a hermeneutical point of view, he focuses on the adequacy of the interpretation, since in view of a wide variety of possible interpretations each reader has to decide for himself what he understands.
