Reinhold Rieger compares the Latin and the German version of this work and describes in detail the structure of the thought process. He puts the Treatise into the context of Luther's entire work and focuses in particular on the way it deals with biblical texts.
In his Treatise on Christian Liberty, Martin Luther provides a systematic development of the basic principles of his theology. Based on two conflicting theories to be found in Paul, Luther shows the effectiveness of faith, which is the reason for the spiritual freedom of Christians and which also enables them to act in the world. Reinhold Rieger compares the Latin and the German version of this work and describes in detail the structure of the thought process. He puts the Treatise into the context of Luther's entire work and focuses in particular on the way it deals with biblical texts. The author concludes his commentary with an examination of the way the Treatise was received during the Reformation. This work also contains a translation of the Latin text, bibliographical references and indexes.
