Friedrich August von Hayek's memory and the esteem in which his work is held apply more to his political visions than they do to his economic and political analyses. Christopher Holl shows that this assessment does not do justice to Hayek's work. He comes to the conclusion that Hayek's cognitive analysis of institutions not only pioneered new economic knowledge; his insights also constitute a fertile ground for continuing research.
Friedrich August von Hayek was probably the most important advocate of the classic-liberal political economy in the 20th century. The influence of Hayek's research program on economics however is clearly limited. Hayek's memory and the esteem in which his work is held apply more to his political visions than they do to his economic and political analyses. Christopher Holl shows that this assessment does not do justice to Hayek's work. He comes to the conclusion that Hayek's cognitive analysis of institutions not only pioneered new economic knowledge; his insights also constitute a fertile ground for continuing research.
