Summary
The lectures contained in this volume were given by Christian Starck's former pupils during a colloquium held to mark his 80th birthday. Just as the law and its interpretation are subject to constant change, so are the democratic state's institutions, whose stability is derived from the ability to overcome the tension between rigidity and flexibility. Transitions in the law are set in motion by, among other things, the reception of German law in other states. This is also the case for transformation processes resulting not least from the transfer of legal concepts and figures into the cultural and linguistic context of the adopting system. This is shown by way of German influence on Spanish state-church law and the reception of German law in the Chinese language.
