Besides imparting knowledge, schools in Germany have the task of promoting social integration. And because a society depends on its members to feel responsible for living together in solidarity, »values« seem to be indispensable here. But how are these defined and how do they relate to law? Should schools be inculcating certain values, or should they rather strive to imbue a level of maturity which can then be taken as a starting point for making individual value judgments? This volume takes an interdisciplinary approach to tackling these questions.
