Summary
National competition means that national economies compete for mobile capital, mobile technical know-how and for highly qualified mobile manpower. Those countries which attract these production factors or can keep them in the country help their workforce to attain higher real incomes. Governments have to prepare themselves for this competition. This will narrow the manoeuvring leeway given to politics and the collective bargaining associations. In addition, locational competition will also be a test for the German consensus model.
