Studien in Digitalen Religionen und Theologien / Studies in Digital Religions and Theologies

Edited by Florian Höhne, Ilona Nord, Frederike van Oorschot, and Thomas Schlag

The series Studies in Digital Religions and Theologies (SDRT) is dedicated to topics in digital theology as well as to the empirical study of religion under digital conditions. Research in “Digital Theology” reflects the digital transformation of church, society, and academic scholarship from a theological perspective. Research in “Digital Religions” takes an interdisciplinary approach to examining religious phenomena and themes within the context of digital transformation.
Across its various disciplines – especially practical and systematic theology – digital theology situates these descriptions within the horizon of Christian interpretations, orientations, and traditions. In doing so, digital theology makes a constructive and critical contribution to the discourse on digital transformation while also offering impulses for theological self-reflection, insofar as it explicitly includes the digital transformation of theological thinking and practice itself.
Digital forms of religiosity and religious practices reshaped through digitalization come into focus within the field of Digital Religion. Which analytical categories help us understand digital change within its social context? What visions – particularly concerning the digital future of the church, its social and relational forms of religious life, and its modes of theological reflection – shape the current discourse? How is religion transformed by digital cultures of religious communication and the spread of AI?
The series offers an international publication forum that is open across confessional boundaries for relevant monographs, outstanding dissertations and habilitations, as well as innovative conference volumes and edited collections in both German and English. Manuscripts are admitted on the basis of a peer-review process conducted by the editorial board. Each volume is published both in print and as an eBook. Authors are routinely offered an Open Access publishing option tailored to their needs and to the requirements of funding bodies. Please submit your manuscript or publication proposal to the responsible acquisitions editor.
