Texts and Studies in Medieval through Modern Judaism

Edited by Michael Engel, Leore Sachs-Shmueli, and Ze'ev Strauss

Aims and Scope

Founded by Martin Hengel and Peter Schäfer, TSMJ is being relaunched with a renewed historical horizon: authoritative editions and philological studies of Jewish texts from the medieval period through the nineteenth century. The series champions meticulous textual attunement as its foremost criterion. We invite submissions that exhibit rigorous evidence-driven engagement with manuscripts, textual transmission, critical apparatus, and historical context, whether as close philological monographs or critical editions.

The series is capacious in scope: philosophy, halakhah, liturgy, exegesis, kabbalah, Hasidism, magic, literature, and poetry are all welcome, as are works that cross genre boundaries or bring neglected archives to light. Submissions may be in English or German. We prefer volumes not exceeding approximately 350 pages, though exceptional longer works may be considered upon prior consultation. All monographs will undergo peer review before acceptance for publication.
