In continuity with Heidegger, Aris Tsoullos addresses the tendency of »Dasein« to interpret itself as a »present-at-hand« and »isolated thing,« alongside the parallel shifts in the enactment of existence and understanding of being, along with their gradual ontological loss of unity - its apex being Descartes' notion of ego.

The volume investigates how human existence is shaped by the tensions between activity and passivity, autonomy and dependence, immanence and transcendence. The central theme is the problematic nature of subjectivity - not as a stable foundation, but as a dynamic, self-relating process marked by vulnerability, temporality, and relationality.

This volume brings together a range of internationally respected scholars to address the need and possibilities for the renewal of hermeneutics today, when experience, existence, language, meaning, and interpretation are challenged by dramatically shifting cultural, technological, and ethical contexts.

Volume 12 of the HKW contains Kelsen's opus magnum 'Allgemeine Staatslehre' from his Viennese years. The first comprehensive presentation of his Reine Rechtslehre, it was to mark the beginning of the heated phase of the Weimar Richtungs- und Methodenstreit.
