Obvious cases of self-deception pose a considerable challenge, including from a philosophical point of view. Investigating the current debate, Simone Neuber sets out to trace the first theoretical analyses of the phenomenon of »self-deception« and sheds light on the difficulties associated with how it is conceived, even when this is applied to supposedly relevant texts from the history of philosophy.

The contributors to this volume examine the interrelations between Judaism, Christianity and Islam from Antiquity to the early modern period with regard to the development of knowledge and scholarship. Central to their inquiry is how a theology of revelation could be articulated and legitimised within diverse epistemological orders.

In continuity with Heidegger, Aris Tsoullos addresses the tendency of »Dasein« to interpret itself as a »present-at-hand« and »isolated thing,« alongside the parallel shifts in the enactment of existence and understanding of being, along with their gradual ontological loss of unity - its apex being Descartes' notion of ego.

This volume collects papers on Axel Hutter's book Narrative Ontology (2017), which elaborate on a focal thought of this book: namely, to place oneself in traditions in which philosophical self-knowledge can be achieved in an original way.
