In the present volume, the manifold practice of biblical exegesis is taken up methodically and transferred into an integrative overall model of textual interpretation. Students receive the fundamental “tools” for a scholarly, reflective treatment of New Testament texts and their receptions.

Meike J. Röhrig examines the oracles concerning Egypt in Ezekiel 29-32 from a literary-historical and religious-historical perspective. She reveals how the image of Egypt that these texts produce develops from that of a chaotic foreign power into an other counterpart to YHWH, which differs from Israel and resembles Israel at the same time.

Daniel Maier offers the first comprehensive reconstruction and contextualisation of the earliest extant Christian vision of Paradise, as preserved in the complex transmission of the Apocalypse of Peter. He undertakes a detailed analysis of all extant witnesses, including the often-neglected Pseudo-Clementine framework of the Ethiopic manuscripts.

This volume contains three sources and studies drawn from the late medieval records of the Benedictine convent of Lüne near Lüneburg - the edition of the statute book with the rites of admission to the monastic community, the diary of the prioress Mechthild Wilde about her own election, and a study on the networks of the Lüne provosts, especially with regard to their acquisition of benefices.
