In his Intimate letters concerning religion, Johann Joachim Spalding idealy expressed the neological view about religion, which was at the same time traditional and modern. This work, which was published in three considerably revised editions, is being made available once again. The texts of all three editions have been integrated and are made accessible by means of the compact historical-theological introduction, the short explanations and the detailed indexes.
In his Intimate letters concerning religion, Johann Joachim Spalding (1714–1804), the eminent Berlin theologian of the Enlightenment, idealy expressed the neological view about religion, which was at the same time traditional and modern. In between a rationalistic critique of religion and religious sentimentality, he defined Christianity a sensible revealed religion which appeals to the »whole person«. This work, which was published in three considerably revised editions and, in its last edition, expanded to include a detailed Addition addressed to Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Jerusalem (1709–1789), is being made available once again. The texts of all three editions have been integrated and are made accessible by means of the compact historical-theological introduction, the short explanations and the detailed indexes.
