Lehren und Lernen im Zeitalter der Reformation

This volume is a collection of essays written for the conference on »Teaching and Learning in the Reformation Era,« which took place in 2009 in the Research Library in Gotha. Based on the period of transition between late medieval teaching and new humanistic approaches up to the consolidation of the education system in the post-Reformation era, the authors deal with various forms of teaching and learning. It is not only the content which is of interest but mainly the methods of teaching and the functions which the knowledge acquired was to fulfil. The authors focus on the teaching of ancient languages, science, Protestant theology and music, in each case studying the various institutions in which the disciplines concerned were to be found (from the monastery to the university) as well as different media and forms of discourse in which teaching and learning took place (from the textbook to the disputatio).
