Summary
This volume deals with piety, in this case the ideal and actual practice of religion in real life and through a certain way of living between 1350 and 1520. The six authors in this volume show, from various perspectives, how diverse the correlation between the ideal of piety and the practice of piety was in the late Middle Ages: ideals have to be put into practice, practice changes ideals, ideals shape practice and practice causes ideals to reveal their inadequacy.
