To what extent does the structure of civil codes play a role for doctrine and practice, and are traditional approaches to structuring, such as the separation of the law of obligations and the law of property, still up-to-date at all? European and East Asian scholars discuss these questions together on the basis of the new Chinese civil law codification and the recent reform of the law of obligations in Japan.
