This essay discusses how (recent) historiography has framed key episodes of inter-religious encounters in the context of early modern and modern Catholic missionary history. It analyzes the genesis and implications of key concepts such as »accommodation« and »inculturation,« which are still used by scholars when describing earlier instances of Christian.
