The first part of this commentary on homiletic discourse between 2016 and 2025 discusses textbooks and study guides on homiletics as well as theological works on preaching. It also deals extensively with international approaches and impulses. In addition, reference is made - for the first time to this extent - to Protestant and Catholic writings alike. Catholic homiletics is characterized by a lively interest in discussing fundamental theological questions of homiletics and by the courage to take corresponding positions regarding the premises and criteria of contemporary preaching. During the period under review, Protestant publications have predominantly dealt with individual topics, some of which are exemplary for the associated discourses. The common ground between Catholic and Protestant approaches is greater than ever, as evidenced not least by a stronger mutual, »interdenominational« reception of authors and a shared interest in anthropological, rhetorical, and didactic questions in particular.
