Politically determined life circumstances, personal crises or extravagances are highlighted, and philosophical debates are only touched upon marginally. The books in question resemble the tabloid press, which focuses on individuals who have acquired a certain reputation through their professional position or scholarship - only to portray them more in terms of their sexual adventures and failures than their intellectual pursuits, thereby tending to bring them down: to de-auratise them.
