This article investigates the relationship between the history of Israel's religion and the theology of the Old Testament. It becomes apparent that both disciplines are of mutual benefit. The true challenge of the theological approach, however, is founded in the central subject matter of the Old Testament itself: God's (hi)story with human beings.
