Beschreibung

SDG 15, alongside SDG 13, is one of the central goals of sustainable development. It aims to put an end to the loss of terrestrial biodiversity and strives toward ensuring the conservation of biological diversity. To this end, SDG 15 pursues a range of specific targets, including the equitable sharing of genetic resources, the control of invasive species, and many others.
This contribution outlines the core objectives of SDG 15. It examines how SDG 15 seeks to address the loss of biological diversity. The primary focus lies on issues of international biodiversity conservation and protection. Using the framework provided by SDG 15, the contribution discusses contradictions and development potentials within the biodiversity protection approach set out by the SDG and concludes with a general reflection on whether and how the achievement of SDG 15's goals can be ensured beyond 2030.
