If holiness is revealed in every religion, not a single one can lay claim to domination in a pluralistic society. Rather, as Nathan Söderblom suggested, the relationship between religions must take on the form of a dialectical process of contest and cooperation. Contrary to much of the history of Christianity, such renunciation of mundane power is an expression of a theologia crucis. The question confronting this concept in the modern world is how it will fare in the face of both fundamentalism and religious shallowness.
