Physical Violence and the Boundaries of Personhood in the Hebrew Bible

This article examines the connection between Israelite conceptions of personhood and physical violence, focusing on the question of who was considered a person in ancient Israel, and argues that violence was often used to shift the status of individuals from that of person to non-person.
