Beschreibung

This article examines an intriguing seal impression on a cuneiform tablet from Ugarit, depicting the name Šipṭi-Ba'al in Egyptian hieroglyphs. The aim is to demonstrate that the individual bearing this West Semitic name was, in fact, an Egyptian. Through a comprehensive analysis of sources, the life of this Egyptian, likely belonging to the second generation of Egyptians who settled in Ugarit, is reconstructed. His life story
highlights the advantages of multilingualism during a period of intensified interactions between the Egyptian and Ugaritian royal courts.
