Beschreibung

Many parts of the Hebrew Bible were produced in a multilingual context, embedding
in it various stages of biblical Hebrew evidence of language contact, particularly from
Akkadian and Aramaic. Not only in composition, but multilingualism also greatly influenced
the history of the Hebrew Bible in transmission. In the following, I examine
a particular - and previously proposed - instance of language contact in Isa 23:18.
I add linguistic considerations regarding the means and mechanisms of the loan,
implications for the multilingual background of this borrowing, and additional and
previously unidentified evidence from the LXX to support it.
